Renée Zellweger has revealed she was impressed by George Clooney's skills as a director on the set of the upcoming film Leatherheads.

Speaking to Access Hollywood, Zellweger said: "He makes good movies - he's good at what he does.

"He's prepared, focused and passionate about his work and committed to it. He takes on everything as a responsibility and refuses to compromise - he gives everything."

Zellweger, who was rumoured to have dated Clooney in 2001, added: "He was so organised and prepared and had such clarity in terms of his vision. He didn't indulge. He didn't waste time. He apologised once because we worked 12 hours."

Clooney has previously directed Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and the Oscar-nominated Good Night, and Good Luck.
