'In Bruges'
Bosnian director Danis Tanovic (No Man's Land) will helm the drama about a photojournalist who arrives home from a dangerous assignment without his colleague and best friend.
Farrell will also serve as executive producer on the project, based on the novel by Scott Anderson.
It will shoot in Ireland and Spain from April to June, reports Variety.
Farrell will next be seen in acclaimed movie In Bruges, which opens in the UK on April 18.
He is also one of three actors taking over Heath Ledger's role in Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
