McConaughey confirms 'Magnum P.I.' offer

Matthew McConaughey has confirmed to DS that he is considering taking the lead role in the Magnum P.I. film.

Speaking at the British premiere of Fool's Gold, the actor confirmed rumours that he had been offered the part of Thomas Magnum. "I'm having a look at it right now. I'm considering that," he said.

Despite the involvement of Dodgeball writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber and the success of the recent big-screen Starsky & Hutch remake, McConaughey said the film wouldn't be a comedy.

He explained: "As I understand it, it's [set in the] modern day. It's not a parody. It's not going back in time, it's a modern-day Magnum. I like that take."

The original Magnum P.I. TV series ran from 1980 to 1988 and starred Tom Selleck as an ex-Navy Seal who works in Hawaii as a private investigator.

Vince Vaughn, George Clooney and Ben Affleck have previously been linked with the lead role.
