The Twentieth Century Fox film will be called The X-Files: I Want to Believe, reports Variety.
Series creator Chris Carter recently said he had argued with the studio over the name, claiming executives disagreed with his choice.
He will take the helm of the sci-fi drama, which sees the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
He previously revealed that it will be a stand-alone story revolving around the struggle between faith and science rather than a continuation of the mythology from the hit '90s series.
The movie will open on July 25, almost ten years after the release of the first X-Files film.
