MGM has snapped up Josh Heald's comedy script Hot Tub Time Machine, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story focuses on a group of adult men who, after a night of downing vodka and Red Bulls in a hot tub, are sent back in time to relive their glory days.

MGM's Vice President of Production Cale Boyter admired the script for its mix of raucous humour and sci-fi.

He said: "We're always looking for ways to stand out from the rest of the pack in today's crowded marketplace, and what better way than to combine hot tub debauchery and the complications of time travel?"

Heald's comedy script Mardi Gras begins production this month with Phil Dornfield directing.
