When's it out: August 13 in the US and UK.
Who's in it: Michael Cera is the titular hero, while Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the girl he falls for, Ramona Flowers. The supporting cast includes Twilight's Anna Kendrick, Kieran Culkin, a couple of superheroes in Brandon Routh and Chris Evans, and the always excellent value Jason Schwartzman.
What's it about: Scott Pilgrim is a fairly directionless 23-year-old rock star wannabe. He plays in a band called Sex Bob-Omb (they're not that great) and dates high-schooler Knives Chau. After laying eyes on Ramona Flowers at a party he falls in love instantly, but is given the challenging task of defeating her seven evil exes in a series of increasingly bizarre battles in order to win her heart.
At The Movies verdict: The trailers so far have exhibited a retro arcade charm and some crazy confluences of style and genre. The movie's a big step up for director Wright (who has worked on lower budgeted Brit flicks) and Cera (who's slipped behind Jesse Eisenberg in the lovable dork stakes recently), but they're both talented enough to make Scott Pilgrim work. It's certainly the most idiosyncratic and offbeat film with blockbuster ambitions this summer, yet its unique blend of comedy, action and romance could make it a surprise hit.
