Pics: 'The Dragon Tattoo's Rooney Mara

The search was a long and exhaustive one, but it came to a close yesterday when David Fincher named his Social Network star Rooney Mara as the new Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

To most, "Rooney" probably conjures up thoughts of England's tempestuous centre forward, so we thought we'd familiarise you with the 25-year-old American actress who'll be the new Lisbeth Salander.

Here's the pic Sony released of Rooney to go with the casting announcement.



You might have seen her in the dodgy Michael Bay-produced A Nightmare On Elm Street remake...



... which featured Rooney's Nancy Holbrook getting terrorised in the bathtub.



Rooney also stars in comedy The Winning Season with Sam Rockwell (who she's next to) and Emma Roberts.



And finally, when Rooney's de-gothed from the Salander getup she brushes up nicely on the red carpet!
