Filmed by Richard Donner and The Three Musketeers director Richard Lester, 1980's Superman II reintroduced the Kryptonian villains banished to the Phantom Zone at the start of 1978's Superman: The Movie.
General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O'Halloran) find a way to Earth to seek revenge on the Man of Steel for their imprisonment. Christopher Reeve's titular hero relinquishes his powers to be with his true love Lois Lane, only to be faced with a dilemma when the trio of baddies threaten to take over the planet with Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman).
Superman: The Motion Picture Anthology - an eight-disc set of all five Man of Steel movies - flies on to Blu-ray on June 13. We're continuing our Superman week today with the opening scenes of Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut.
