As box office revenue begins to fall for 3D screenings, thousands of film fans voted against the new technology, which has recently been utilised on Hollywood blockbusters such as Avatar, Toy Story 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Some 77.3% of readers admitted that they still prefer going to the cinema to see a film in 2D, while just 22.7% said that they were happy to pay extra for the 3D experience.
Writing in the Facebook comments for the poll, many Digital Spy users questioned the decision to charge customers extra for 3D tickets.
"There is nothing wrong with 3D films if they are made in 3D rather than converted," said Paul Ferrer. "The problem is the cinema chains have used 3D as a way to charge up to a third more to see a film in 3D, when the only extra cost to the cinema is the few pennies the 3D glasses cost.

Adam Thomas noted that although he often found 3D "visually stunning", it had become "gimmicky" and didn't sufficiently enhance the viewing experience.
"If anything, I think it's often used as an attempt to distract from the half-arsed storytelling of some of the films that have been released in 3D recently," he wrote.
Ben Dawson said that he is in favour of 3D technology, but has reservations about the quality of cinema releases using the format.
"I think when done properly 3D is a fantastic addition, and when it comes to future 3D television channels and games consoles, most certainly I will be using 3D," he explained. "However half the films that have used 3D in recent years have used it merely as a cash in effect... Clash of the Titans being a perfect example."
Today sees the release of Ryan Reynolds's superhero blockbuster Green Lantern in 3D. Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 will also debut in 3D later this summer.
