The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists! features the voice of News International nemesis Hugh Grant as a Pirate Captain embarking on a mission to beat his rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the heralded 'Pirate of the Year Award'. His adventure also brings him into contact with Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) and a young Charles Darwin (former Doctor Who star Tennant).
Pirates! uses the traditional, stop-motion plasticine techniques as opposed to the computer-generated animation of Arthur Christmas and Aardman's earlier offering Swept Away.
