This week's DVD, Blu-ray releases: 'Chalet Girl', 'Back to the Future'

It's box sets galore this week, as a number of popular series make their way on to Blu-ray in their entirety. But before we get there, there's a decent rom-com to talk about in Chalet Girl.

Below, we list the biggest Blu-ray and DVD releases out today.

Chalet Girl
Starring: Felicity Jones, Ed Westwick, Bill Bailey, Sophia Bush
Format: BD, DVD
The movie: Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill viewers will likely enjoy this sweet romantic comedy, and not just because of the presence of Ed Westwick and Sophia Bush. Felicity Jones stars as Kim, a working class girl who finds a job working for a family at a chalet in the Alps. There, she starts to fall for rich boy Jonny (Westwick) while also training for a snowboarding contest. Chalet Girl is a fluffy but effective and endearing movie carried by the superb and immensely likable Jones. If there's any justice, it will springboard her into more leading roles. Meanwhile, Tamsin Egerton and Bill Bailey also shine in supporting roles as Kim's colleague and father respectively.

Saw 1-7
Starring: Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell
Format: BD
The movie: If you're a fan of the Jigsaw Killer or simply have a penchant for mindless, gory horror, this Blu-ray collection is for you. In all seven films - from the original Saw in 2004 to the final instalment Saw 3D in 2010 - victims are placed in gruesome death traps from which they must escape. As the series progresses, the backstory of Jigsaw is revealed with the aid of numerous flashbacks, while the later films focus on a power struggle between his ex-wife Jill (Betsy Russell) and former apprentice Hoffman (Costas Mandylor).
Bonus features: Hours of bonus content including commentaries, deleted scenes and featurettes.

Scary Movie 1-3.5
Starring: Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Simon Rex, Charlie Sheen
Format: BD
The movie: Speaking of Saw, it's a real bummer that this Scary Movie package doesn't include Scary Movie 4. Never mind, though, as it still has the first three films - the third of which is an extended version (hence the "3.5"). Starring Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, all four films earn good laughs from spoofing mostly well-known horror flicks, including I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, The Exorcist and The Ring. This series is worth checking out if you're familiar with the genre, but references may be lost on people who usually don't dabble in horror.

Back to the Future, Parts I-III
Starring: Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Thomas F Wilson, Lea Thompson
Format: BD
The movie: We round off the week with this fondly-remembered trilogy of films - now available as separate Blu-ray releases - starring Michael J Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown, who travel to the past and future in their time-travelling DeLorean. In the first Back to the Future, Marty takes a trip to 1955 where he has to make his parents fall in love with each other after accidentally intervening. Part II sees Marty travel to 2015 to save their future children before being forced to go back to 1955 to restore the timeline that Biff Tannen has ruined. Finally, Part III sees Marty trying to save Doc, who is trapped in the Wild West in 1885. The whole series is wonderful entertainment, but the first film in particular stands as an all-time classic that must be seen.
