X-Men: First Class proved to be one of the surprise hits of the summer, particularly since Marvel Comics fans had left predecessors X-Men: The Last Stand and Wolverine underwhelmed.
Oscar-nominated Winter's Bone star Jennifer Lawrence stepped into Rebecca Romijn's shoes for the role of shape-shifting blue mutant Mystique, but found a painstaking amount of time was still required in the make-up chair.

The actress said of the time-consuming process: "There's no CG for me! It's the same methods as they were using on Rebecca Romijn, the original Mystique, ten years ago."

She added: "I had a theory of when I was really tired, when I was on my seventh hour, why didn't you just dip me in a bath tub of blue?
"It's all air-brushed, they place the scales first, then they do three layers of airbrush blue and then five layers of splattering different colours."
X-Men: First Class is released on Blu-ray and DVD on October 31.
