7. A dog gives birth to an alien - Alien 3 (1993)
Animal lovers look away, David Fincher's stab at the franchise saw his alien burst forth from a dog. The creature was fast and savage, perhaps a result of its canine DNA?
6. Jones lures Brett to his death - Alien
Harry Dean Stanton's engineer Brett goes searching for the ship's furry ginger cat, only to come face-to-face with a full-grown alien. He's hoisted up into the ship's ventilation ducts as Jones looks on.
5. The Space Jockey - Alien
An image that stayed with director Ridley Scott for decades, the crew of the Nostromo encounter the body of a pilot whose chest has blown apart from the inside out. The beast was dubbed a "space jockey" by crew members working on the film, and is key to Scott's quasi-prequel Prometheus.
4. "Game over, man!" - Aliens
One of James Cameron's most-most memorable characters, Pvt. William Hudson (Bill Paxton) may see himself as "the ultimate badass", but even that's not enough to save him from death by xenomorph. It's hard to pick our favourite Hudson moment, so watch all of them in one video below!
3. Ripley dies - Alien 3
Sigourney Weaver had long wanted to see Ripley bite the dust, and she got her wish at the climax of Alien 3. David Fincher's film may not be the franchise's best, but it's hard not to be moved when the shaven-headed heroine - with evil alien baby on board - makes the ultimate sacrifice.
2. "Get away from her, you bitch!" - Aliens
Grieving over the loss of her daughter, Ripley establishes a strong maternal bond with stowaway Newt (Carrie Henn) in James Cameron's sequel. When the terrifying Alien Queen gets her claws on the young girl, our heroine pilots a powerloader to even the odds. Is this sci-fi cinema's best ever girl fight?
1. The chestbursting scene - Alien
The definitive Alien scene. After Kane's (John Hurt) first encounter with a facehugger renders him unconscious, the Nostromo crew are relieved when they manage to detach the creature from his face and bring him back around. Little do they know, something is still lurking inside. It's shocking, gruesome and iconic. Hurt even directly spoofed it in Spaceballs some years later.
