Like much of the director's work, Frankenweenie is the director's own unique celebration of the outsider - freeze frame it at any point and it's instantly recognisable as a Burton movie. It's also a respectful homage to the monster films Burton grew up on - spooky and kooky, but still fun for all the family.

With Frankenweenie opening the BFI London Film Festival today (October 10), Digital Spy takes an in-pictures look at the remarkable movie career of Tim Burton.

Frankenweenie (2012)
Burton's career comes full circle with the release of black-and-white animation Frankenweenie. The director made a live-action short based on his idea while working as a Disney animator in 1984. He returned to the House of Mouse to breathe new life into his tale of a boy who resurrects his beloved pet pooch.
