With sizzling dialogue and fantastic characters brought to life by true screen icons like Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet, Casablanca continues to put much of today's cinematic output to shame, over 70 years after its original release. But watching the movie at the open-air Luna Cinema, in the grounds of Kensington Palace, helped me to appreciate it in a whole new light.
The Casablanca screening - part of a 2013 summer season of popular classics being given a public airing - was a deeply enjoyable experience, one that was all the more satisfying for being shared with dozens of other cinephiles scattered across the Palace green.
I'd seen the film previously, while the guest I brought along to the event was a Casablanca-newbie, but we both enjoyed the opportunity to share the laughs, the gasps and the thrills of this masterpiece with an equally receptive audience.
Watching a film sat under the stars is an entirely different experience to viewing the latest release from the 'comfort' of a cramped cinema seat. Following screenings of Top Gun, Skyfall and more in Kensington, Luna Cinema will continue showcasing movie classics and modern hits in the coming months...
The likes of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Napoleon Dynamite, Pretty Woman, The Birds, This Is Spinal Tap, Grease, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Dirty Dancing will all be given outings at venues including Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Leeds Castle, Kew Gardens, Hatfield House and Hampton Court Palace - visit the Luna Cinema's website for full details.
Ongoing throughout August and September, Luna's outdoor cinema experience is very much recommended.
As the Official Beer and Cider Partner of The Luna Cinema, Stella Artois will serve film-goers perfectly poured Chalices of Stella Artois under the summer evening skies.
The premium beer brand will also be giving away free Chalice glasses at selected events, as well as a chance to win VIP tickets on the Stella Artois UK Facebook page.
2012 MasterChef winner Shelina Permalloo has created a range of recipes perfectly paired with Stella Artois Cidre this summer, and features in the Stella Artois Connoisseurs Series - a collection of exclusive video portraits, each providing an intimate look into the world of renowned craftspeople.
