Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011)
There are worse ways to begin a career than by winning a directing award at Sundance, as Sean Durkin did with his mesmerising debut. Elizabeth Olsen rightly received the bulk of critics' praise for her performance as a traumatised cult escapee, but Durkin's admirably assured handling of the film's multiple narratives and fragmented psychology makes him one to watch.
