Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001)
Another fairly uninspiring role for Bale, and this time the film wasn't even well-received – John Madden's weepie was panned by critics for its dodgy history and unconvincing central romance. But this is another example of Bale doing what he became best at during this early Noughties period: coming out of a mess largely unscathed, unlike the Razzie-nominated Penelope Cruz.
