Summary: The story is set in a future in which youths are branded 'Uglies' until they reach 16 and are then surgically transformed in 'Pretties', allowing them to live in the posher part of town. The focus is on a girl who is told she will be denied the life-changing procedure unless she spies on a friend who avoided the operation and joined a group of rebels.
Based on the first novel in a trilogy by Scott Westerfield.
