'Senna' director Asif Kapadia on the F1 icon

Formula 1 icon Ayrton Senna takes centre stage in Asif Kapadia's outstanding new documentary Senna. The film charts the Brazilian driver's journey to sporting stardom, examines his fierce rivalry with Frenchman Alain Prost and climaxes with the San Marino Grand Prix collision that took Senna's life at the tragically young age of 34.

The Warrior director Kapadia, who picked up the 'World Cinema Audience Award' at this year's Sundance, eschewed the talking heads documentary convention to assemble Senna from archive footage and audio interviews. The results are spectacular.

Senna opens in UK cinemas on June 3.
