'The Guard' still
He has a strong sense of his Irish roots, but like his brother Martin McDonagh (the man behind In Bruges), writer-director John Michael McDonagh grew up in London, hundreds of miles from the west coast of Ireland where his first film is set.

The Guard stars Brendan Gleeson as a laidback Connemara cop who teams up with Don Cheadle's uptight FBI agent to investigate an international drugs smuggling operation.

McDonagh gets a little het up talking to Digital Spy about why In Bruges is NOT an Irish film, why The Guard is really a Western and how making the film channelled his secret desire to say very rude things.
