Digital Spy sat down with Oldman to discuss the success he's found playing Smiley, why he "feels assaulted" watching many modern-day movies and facing off against Karla in potential sequel Smiley's People.
Oldman said of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: "It gives me hope. It's an intelligent film, it demands something of the audience. It's not fast-paced, films tend to be over-cranked, too much cutting, they're too loud. I feel assaulted sometimes when I come out of them.
"I take my kids sometimes and I come out and I want to go and have a lie down after. I think it's so nice that this is a quiet, silent, slow-burn."
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is released on Blu-ray and DVD in the UK today (January 30). The film is still showing in select US theatres.
