Tom Hiddleston has had a busy 12 months. Roles in Thor, Midnight in Paris and The Deep Blue Sea marked him out as one to watch, and now he's working with Steven Spielberg on the director's latest movie War Horse.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Hiddleston revealed that he was put at ease the first time he met the legendary filmmaker, who had overheard him talking about a certain Irish beverage.

Hiddleston recalled: "He walked in and said, 'Guinness? Guinness is my favourite drink, I love Guinness! I've just been in Dublin and went to the brewery'.

"We quickly bonded over Guinness and immediately I realised that he's a very grounded, very humble man."

The actor also discusses learning to ride a horse and why he's not growing facial hair as a reaction to Benedict Cumberbatch's War Horse moustache in the video above.

War Horse opens in UK cinemas on January 13.
