The Texas-born actress finds herself at the centre of a war on Mars (or Barsoom, as the natives refer to it) and romancing Taylor Kitsch's eponymous American soldier.

Digital Spy sat down with Collins to discuss why she was initially drawn to Mark Strong's character Matai Shang, what science fiction movies she loves and why she got "spiked out on adrenaline".
"For me, the adrenaline was really intense," she said of the action-heavy role. "I don't know if that's because I'm an intense human being or because I have more adrenaline than most.
"The fights, I would really have to get in a very calm, centred place and focus, so that I contained my energy. I would just be spiked out on adrenaline."
