Jordin Sparks, Carmen Ejogo and Tika Sumpter play the siblings who rocket to stardom, and the trio shared their experiences of working with the late Houston with Digital Spy.
"Working with her overall was incredible," Sparks said. "It was fun being able to work with her when the cameras were rolling, but it was off the camera where she was really, really incredible and amazing in setting examples for us.
Sparks also revealed that she was once caught out by Houston singing one of her hits on set.
"There was one point where I was singing 'I Have Nothing' - I don't know why I was when she was around, but I was! - and she was walking behind me and said, 'I forgot I sang that!'" she explained.
Sparkle opens in UK cinemas on Friday (October 5).
