Marion Cotillard interview: 'Rust and Bone is a beautiful love story'

By
Marion Cotillard has described her latest movie Rust and Bone as "a beautiful love story".

The Dark Knight Rises star, who plays a whale trainer who has both legs amputated, told Digital Spy that she was eager to sign up for the romantic drama to work with A Prophet director Jacques Audiard.

"I'm not used to jumping into a movie without long preparation, and Jacques is not used to it either," said Cotillard.

"I really wanted to work with him, and I was lucky enough that he wanted to work with me and that he could have a different way of working."

Cotillard stars opposite Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts, who won the role after impressing Audiard with his movie Bullhead.

Schoenaerts said of his character Ali, who romances Cotillard's Steph and becomes a bare-knuckle boxer: "He's brutal, he's not the most likeable guy but he can be tender at the same time. He's very sincere, what you see is what you get. He tells you what he thinks."

Asked about the early Oscar buzz for her performance, Cotillard responded: "What I do is doing movies and sharing movies. This is the same process. Awards season is not something that I think about. What I enjoy a lot is knowing that people go and see the movie and they love the movie."

Rust and Bone opens in UK cinemas on Friday, November 2.
