Jon M Chu made a name for himself directing Step Up movies and Justin Bieber's concert doc Never Say Never, but now he finds himself in charge of blockbuster sequel GI Joe: Retaliation
Chu spoke to Digital Spy about the challenges of shifting from "The Biebs" to Bruce Willis, his love for Joe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures, and why some of Roadblock's (Dwayne Johnson) skills as a gourmet chef didn't make the final cut.
The director also discussed finding inspiration from an unlikely source for his GI Joe war room set: Stanley Kubrick.
"I love Dr Strangelove," said Chu.
"The whole tone of the movie has a Dr Strangelove feel to it. Joe was always playing with current events, going over the top and satirising.
"The round table was an homage to that scene, we just tried to push it even more with Jonathan Pryce and have fun with it."
GI Joe: Retaliation opens in cinemas today (Wednesday, March 27).
