'The Hobbit' stars talk sequel 'The Desolation of Smaug' - video

The stars of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey have discussed their roles in the upcoming sequel.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be the second in Peter Jackson's trilogy, and Richard Armitage, Andy Serkis and James Nesbitt recently sat down with Digital Spy to muse on what's to come.


Armitage speaks about the future of the relationship between his character Thorin and Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins, while Serkis discusses the differences between his experience of playing Gollum on Lord of the Rings and on The Hobbit.

Jackson recently offered a preview of the second film, during which the first glimpses of characters played by Evangeline Lilly and Luke Evans were revealed.

The sequel will also see the introduction of Benedict Cumberbatch as the dragon Smaug, who was glimpsed in the closing shots of the first film.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be released on DVD and Blu-ray this Monday (April 8).
