Best film i have EVER seen. Heath Ledger is spectacular as the Joker. And Christian Bale is good too. Surely an Oscar for both of them, as well as the director Chris Nolan and the film itself.

Brilliant film, I saw it twice, it was pure pleasure and excitement, even though I did not believe all the hype surrounding it. Keith Ledger's performance was electrifying and Christian Bale was an awesome Batman. It had all the right ingredients for a memorable movie night out. Very poingnant towards the end.

I thought this movie was excellent. DO NOT listen to robert downey jr's comments stating the film was to complicated Im 14 and understood it completley. I certainly would recommend this film

I think it was an excellent movie. Heath was phenomenal as usual. I think he would have been the greatest actor of his time. Even if a movie he played in was not very good, he played an excellent part. I hope he gets all the awards he is entitled to, especially since he got cheated out of the well deserved Oscar for BBM. I don't think he should get the award for the Joker because he didn't get the one for BBM but because of the great acting job in itself. Not that there are not other good actors, it is just that he was the best, in my opinion. Christian was also extremely good and knew that it was a movie for the Joker (as he said himself in an interview). The other supporting actors played their parts well also. Chris knew how to pick the correct actors for each part. I have seen the movie 6 times, that is how good it is. And I always see some little thing I missed before. If there is one person out there who has not seen this movie, you are missing out. It is a must see.

Brilliant! The best film I have seen in a long time - clever, dark and slick. The Joker scared the life out of me at some points! Great acting from Heath Ledger, but I really thought Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman stood out! Really brilliant movie - worth the wait and the hype.

Maybe one of the best movies ever made. The Joker gave me nightmares, and I'm 23.

WOW! That was a fantastic movie, I need to see it again. For me Heath Ledger was definitely the highlight of the movie and deserves an oscar nomination. He portrayed the joker brilliantly and he made the joker his own he was amazing. The film had everything in it. It was exciting, gripping, thrilling and it was the best film I had seen in ages. I really loved the film and I guarantee if you go and see the film you will love it. I give it 10/10.(or more)

Heath Ledger is just brilliant, he had some brilliant lines and he played the Joker so well. The movie is a little slow at first, but it picks up pace very quickly and the last fifteen minutes are just amazing. Go see it.

This almost completely falls out of the typical superhero movie genre. I have to say that Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker is the most grittiest, dark and brilliant one we've seen, and I doubt that opinion would've been any different had he not died. While you might think the movie is too long, its not as if you notice any padding anywhere - its all thoroughly entertaining. Give yourself points for knowing where Batman might be hiding in the shadows - he makes several surprise enterences in the film! The music is well-written and well-placed, the direction is flawless and contains enough comic moments to make the film an all-rounder for fans. A must see!

THIS FILM IS AMAZING! Heath Ledgers Portrayal of the Joker has to be the best one, thus far. Christian Bale is also a very reputable character in the film. But this film belongs to Heath Ledger. Unmissable.

The Dark Knight is the best comic book movie of all time and without doubt the best film of the summer. It is flawless on all levels, its got a good score, its shot well, brilliantly written and directed and superbly acted. Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman are the three best actors and oscar talk is deserved but not just for them also for the directing, writing, music and cinematography. Its complex, undpredictable, cool ,action-packe,d thrilling, gripping, awesome, dark, scary and altogether fantastic. It really blows you away and is an all round perfect film. After watching it i just wanted to watch it again and the two and a half hours flew by with an all round fantastic film.

If Christopher Nolan as Christian Bale stop working together on batman these movie will have no meaning! Tim Burton as Michial Keaton??? All I see is remake, after remake! I think it is time Warn bros. pulls strings and keeps making newer batmans and stops remaking them! I am a customer that will stop watching if this ever happens again!
Yasmin, London on July 25th, 2008
it was a great movie but a bit too dark for my liking but i guess it does live up to its name. it could have done with a bit more fun i mean aren't superhero movies supposed to be fun? still its definitely worthy to watch.
Dave Dunnett, Invergordon on July 25th, 2008
Brilliant film, maybe slightly too long. Heath Ledger deserves all the credit that people have being giving him as he is amazing as The Joker. Christian Bale once again gives a strong showing as Bruce Wayne/Batman and the introduction of Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/2 Face makes for an interesting story line. Hopefully Chris Nolan will make a 3rd film and wrap it up after that.

It was a decent enough film and all the acting was fair enough, but let's face it, Heath Ledger would not have been thought worthy of an Oscar if he hadn't died. Let's forget about the tragic events surrounding the actor, and just concentrate on the film. Average, dead or otherwise.

I saw the film at a preview screening the night before it came out on general release. This rating only goes up to 5; it should go up to 100 for this film alone. The first scene in which you see the Joker fully, his disappearing pencil trick sets the tone for his character, and the rest of the film is pure genius. Regardless of Ledger's tragic death, the Joker still stands out, and despite what I thought, you don't look at the screen each time he's on it and think "Oh yeah he's dead now, so let's just say it's good." You're too busy sitting on the edge of your seat and biting your nails, because as he himself says in the film, he brings chaos into it, and you really feel tense when he's on screen, you truly don't know what he's going to do as he seems to have no boundaries in terms of violence and destruction. The comedy parts in it too are also great, Aaron Eckhart perfectly cast as Harvey Dent, and the rest of the cast are on fine form too. Don't sit here reading review, GO AND SEE THSI FILM

the best movie out of all the batmans, supermans and all the other comic epics. heath ledger is a true actor and will definitley be missed. never in all my years have i seen such a good performance and excelled adaptation of a character that is so entirley different from himself

This was one of the most amazing films i have ever seen! I agree with all movie critics when they say that Heath Ledgers performance was absolutly legendary and he completely transformed himself into the Joker and he was utterly amazing. I almost cried when i saw him, and i am glad that his last film was absolutly amazing. i was totally blown away by him. Definatly worth the oscar!

I have just come back from watching The Dark Knight and WOW, the film truly does belong to the late Heath Ledger, he is simply fantastic, credit to Christian Bale as well who was also fantastic.

NICE REVIEW!!! I LOVE THE MOVIE and you said it: Heat Ledger was the last laughing, sad. R.I.P.

Fantastic performance by the entire cast, although I'm glad to see the back of the character Rachel Dawes, a very annoying character in both movies, I think Batman would be better without the love interest, it makes it cheesy with it. But Caine, Freeman, Bale and Ledger were superb. Heath Ledger's performance as the 'third incarnation of the infamous Joke, 3rd including the original 60s portrayal.' was just pure brilliance, he's made his eternal mark in film history as The Joker, a truly undeniably gripping portrayal that surely would make his predecessors proud.

watched the film last night and was blown away. at last a proper adults comic book film

Mark, UK on July 24th, 2008
Having seen this last night, there's a palpable sense of disappointment about it. The movie doesn't really live up to the hype the media have stirred up for it. It's probably 20 minutes too long and the whole sub-plot with Harvey Dent becoming Two Face and his descent into madness is simply too rushed and could have been saved from another movie, especially considering the connection between Dent and Batman/Bruce Wayne. The set pieces are impressive, as are Gary Oldman and Michael Caine, and the scope of the film is grand - however, you can't help but feel that the film over-extends its reach because of this. It feels like there's too much going on in the first half and not enough in the second. It's a very good Batman film and captures the ethos of the comic perfectly - but then, so did Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk. The Joker seems to have been written along the lines of the Grant Morrison-style Joker (even down to the Agent of Chaos comment) and vocally Ledger's performance is reminiscent of Mark Hammil's take on the Joker in the animated Batman series. Having said that, I'll reiterate what I said before - it's a very good Batman film, it's just a shame it doesn't live up to the hype. And there wasn't a trailer for Watchmen either!

This film is so much more than just a portrayal of a comic book, but of human nature in itself. Christopher Noland does a fantastic job in The Dark Knight, and the late, great Heath Ledger literally blows you away with his performance. The way he just becomes lost in character: an award-winning performance if I've ever seen one.
Rhonda Doherty, Beloit, WI on July 23rd, 2008
I thoroughly enjoyed it! Like many people, I feel that Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker was the highlight of the movie, and that an Oscar nomination is definitely in order. I felt , which may sound odd, that he was somewhat of the moral compass. Without him, the challenges for an individual, and for a community, to choose what's considered good would not have been there, and would certainly not have been so interesting. The rest of the cast was also very good, but they seemed to have more of a supporting role to the star of the show - the Joker.

Despite your adept review, you still gave it only 4 our of 5 stars. It was a 5 and a half out of 5, in my opinion. Though, the downsides you note are accurate, I still would have personally broke the scale on this one.

The Dark Knight is the greatest BATMAN movie ever made. This Film is AWESOME. It's not just a movie, it's an EVENT. Unless you hate yourself you should go and see this movie. I plan to see it at least two more times. PS The jokers pencil trick is something to see. hee hee.

brilliant movie, the best i have seen for a long time, it's not the usual run of the mill superhero film but more of a dark action-thriller, i am fussy about what movies i watch but i recommend this highly...10/10

Can you go easy on the spoilers, there are a large amount of people who are unaware of Dents fate. It is the Directors intention that most will find this out from the movie hence his lack of appearence in the marketing, with the exception of some stuff for the fanboys who do know. If you are going to reveal major plot points then it would be helpful if there was at least a spoiler warning
