I do agree that this was a stellar performance. Also, I think that it was so much better than "The Order of the Phoenix". If you have faithfully read and watched all of the Harry Potter installments, you know that they changed too much of that one. From what I understand, the final two will be following the books far closer than ever before!

I am a huge fan of both the films and the books, and even though I was slightly disappointed by the cutting out of important scenes, I still think it's the best the production team could have done with it. It's a joy seeing the character blossom in this movie, and I certainly enjoyed Daniel Radcliffe's acting in this movie; it's gotten much better. And to those who are continuosly whining about scenes or sub-plots being missed out, lets see if you can do better. It was a good movie. A lot of publicity around it, but it is well deserved as the actors (Emma, Dan Rupert) have worked so hard and not become like typical hollywood actors. Harry Potter is the best franchise of all time

Just went to see the film. It was great, and very enjoyable to watch. I particulary enjoyed the romance scenes, which showed that Harry is more mature - he's growing up! I think Lavender was wonderfully cast - she did a great job of portraying an obsessed teenager who loves Ron Weasley. The ending was very sad, I cried. I can't wait for the first part of the last film. It's the beginning of the end!!

Disappointed. Great acting but very bad directors cut. Praying tha DH is MUCH better and that they work with what they have which is a great book and not add unessary scenes!

just been to watch the film and the most dissapointing part was no final battle. When i read the book the final battle on the hogwarts staircase was the best bit. The kiss was poor and i didn't like malfoy's sub-plot. Apart from this it was a good lead up to the next film which has to improve.

Too long and too self obsessed with the characters and their hormones. Visually stunning but the death was almost incidential.... too much missed out and sub plots lost. Ambitious undertaking but the focus was wrong.

its good that they managed to link teen romance with wizardry, they kept the magic and fiction of it all whilst yet managing to bring some realistic romance in2 it. i thought it was a brill movie.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? They might as well have called it Harry Potter 6, because it hardly touched on the Half-Blood Prince story. I was very disappointed in this movie. The added scenes did nothing for the storyline. It jumped from scene to scene, which made it confusing for my friends who haven't read the book. It lacked information about the full importance of the Horcruxes, it lacked the growing bond between Harry and Dobby, it lacked in explaining more about Voldemort's past, the battle at the end and the funeral. I am aware that not everything can be fitted into a movie, but what we were left with was lacklustre and, quite frankly, unimpressive. Not to mention that those who haven't read the books will have missed out on all those key elements which lead up to the next book. As for the next film, I now doubt I'll bother...

It's a fascinating movie. The books are obviously better, but that's always going to be the case. It's one of the great pleasures of reading, that you can become immersed in a rich world of glorious detail that a movie can barely touch upon. The movie itself does miss out certain things. Bearing in mind how the next book goes, a scene with the Dursleys would have been nice. Also, we go from learning about horcruxes to the end of the movie far, far too quickly. The biggest problem perhaps is that the movie fails to fully explore the darkness that is inherent in the novel. By this stage of the saga there were a number of avid fans of the book who had complained that the book was getting unsuitable for children, that it was too dark and gruesome. The movie doesn't show this side though. There are far too many light hearted romantic scenes scattered throughout the movie. What brought characters like Lupin and Tonks together was the overwhelming darkness surrounding them and the wonderful comfort and security they felt with each other in the midst of this. Similarly, Harry fell for Ginny and vice versa and their relationship was surrounded by the evils happening in the outside world, and that both separated them and brought them closer together. But again, the movie fails to fully explore this, instead showing cliched love scenes. However, having said all this, one must also bear in mind that there are another two movies to go. Yes, horcruxes weren't fully explored, but with a two-part final movie one imagines they will be. There is a lot left to touch upon. For that reason, when I review this movie not as part of the Harry Potter universe, but as an individual entity in it, I think it deserves four stars. The plot is well explained, the characters act brilliantly, especially young Tom Felton, and the movie does leaving you dying for more.

Yes the books are better but books for most things are usually better! I thought it was good considering all they had to include. Okay some things were missed and i do think horcruxes should've been mentioned a lot more but i enjoyed it!
Jenny from Northern Ireland on July 20th, 2009
I didn't like it that much. The books are far better. The books explain more on what is going on than what the film shows. Alot of scenes were axed especially the Funeral!. Also, The Dursleys weren't in this years film. Hopefully the last two installments are better.
Luke on July 20th, 2009
Jessie Cave, Rupert Grint, Tom Felton were brilliant. Daniel Radcliffe was even funny during the scene when he was under the influence of Felix Felicies and Alan Rickman...could you imagine anyone else playing Snape? I did not like the fact that unecessary scenes were added but I have faith the DH is going to be full of battles and the importance of Horcruxes and Hallows. For all of those that were unimpressed with this movie I suggest re-reading the book as it'll remove the disappointment and you may even enjoy the DVD when it comes out next year:o)

im afraid i wasnt impressed. I love ALL the books and have so far enjyed the films, and cos HP5 was good, i expected yates to be brill again but he just made it too much about romance! there was no Dursleys, battle at end, funeral, Scrimgur, Voldermorts mother n her family and NO DOBBY!!! Dobby aint been in any since no2 so we aint seen harry n dobby frendship flourish for book7... And if they cut that out, i'll be even more disapointed.. Sorry- they just didnt get it right this time.
Suzanne, Southampton on July 20th, 2009
This is a brilliant, brilliant film! Rupert Grint is hilarious, Tom Felton was spectacular and Alan Rickman...words fail me; the man is a living legend. One of the few films I've seen where you could have heard a pin drop in the cinema, everyone was spellbound - we all sobbed and yayyyed at the same points throughout. Go see it. :)

The Moviee is ok,But it missed to mention some major part of the book Voldemorts past,Horocruxes properly(Dumbledore only mention horocrux),death scene and fight at hogwarts.I think insted of putting emphasis on Romance n adding xtra scene dey cud hav easily accomodate atleast Voldemorts Past. Anyway i dnt kno how harry is goin to manage to find the horocruxes wit so little information abt Volde and also wht horocrux can be(dumbledore allready shared his guesses wht it can be).

I loved the half blood prince! i haven't read the books so didn't know what was going to happen! it was sooo good i want to watch it again! can't wait for deathly hallows! if they put everything in the book it would be like a 5 hour film which i would go see no matter what! i love harry potter!
Rachie on July 19th, 2009
Oh come and lighten up, i enjoyed it alot, brought in some much needed characterisation and hald blood prince was always going to be a strange one, particularly since its mostly a nonsense until the big twist at the end. I found 'horny hogwarts' rather amusing, and at times extremely moving. Was it full to the brim with every little detail from the book? No it wasn't, was it perfectly enjoyable anyway - of course it was. Lighten up and enjoy it for what it is, a story.
Nicola, London on July 19th, 2009
I really enjoyed it. Yes it was different to the book and things were left out but overall i thought it was a great film. Can't wait for deathly hallows now!
Cate, London on July 19th, 2009
Cave scene was good. Tom Felton, Jessie Cave and Rupert Grint played their parts superbly. Adaptation of Ginny and Harry relationship was all wrong. There was no battle. HBP and Horcruxes were hardly touched upon. The same director did HP and the Order of the Phoenix which I hated the film version so I am REALLY concerned about HP &TDH which he is directing also. He might break all our hearts an completly ommit the Durselys again and the 7 potter battle at the start.

Richard, Bournemouth on July 19th, 2009
It's a well made film and carries on the dark nature of the last film. But it does feel like it's missing a overall plotline as the half blood prince doesn't really take much up of the story. However these faults are really down to the book and its sheer size. They've had to do many cuts to subplots to make it fit and I'm guessing the battle at the end was cut as it would have been too similiar to what will happen in the final film. In a nutshell this film is to set up the final 2 films.
Niamh, London on July 19th, 2009
I was disappointed with this movie, i felt that they rushed through it and it was so different to the book! i thought it was alright overall but was a bit kinda "is that it". people said there was more quittach when there was 1 match. can't believe that film was suppose to be a whole year.

Nikki Southampton on July 18th, 2009
i have enjoyed all harry potter films, but most of all the books. the half blood prince being my favourite i had high hopes and was incredibly upset. half the time i wonder how someone who hadnt read the books would understand what was happening, bits added in which never needed to be and took up valuable film time the major down fall which the big ending completly disappearing was horrid. how harry could just stand there, he has a passionate persona and would of never let that happen i feel. its a 2 mainly because draco is amazingly well played and the special effects at times are good and compliment the film. However overall very disappointed, i feel like they just picked random chapters and filmed them and the true essense of the book and especially the horcruxes were never delt with properly. it also sets up the last two films to have a huge number of changes just because of the changes made in this film.

Lee William Dalgleish Kent on July 18th, 2009
I was quite disappointed with the film. After reading the books, I cannot believe they cut out the Hogwarts fight at the school, there was not enough about Horcruxes, The Half Blood prince was barely mentioned or explained, there was not enough about Tom Riddle and they changed the death scene!! I went with my bf and his friend and they both fell asleep during the film because all there was was pointless dialogue and too much emphasis on romance. The book is very dark but people were laughing throughout the film!! I expected more and hate the fact that it didn't impress me because I have enjoyed the other films despite some of the things they cut in the past. This film just seems wrong to me. There were so many plots/points that wouldn't make sense to someone that hasn't read the books

Really dissappointing, read and loved all the books and loved all the films to date (apart from the maze in the Goblet of Fire), was really looking forward to film but was left unimpressed. Missed loads from the book including most the best parts (they completely messed up the Harry/Ginny kiss, all the memories and the fight in the castle near the end)(i could go on but won't), begining was good and cave scene was the only bit that was anything like the book so i would say this is the best bit of the film, the rest was pretty rubbish, some bits were funny and made me laugh which was good. Overall very dissappointed and wont be rushing out to buy the dvd. Hope they get it right with the Deathly Hallows cuz they couldn't have got it more wrong with this film.

Worst Movie EVER! Did JK Rowling actually sign this one off???? Plot? What plot? 2 Hours of the my life i won't ever get back! and I actually have enjoyed all the previous films and the books. If there was a Zero rating....

Disagree about whoever said the fans of the books would hate this movie, I mean come on! I've read the books countless of times and loved this film. This was amazingly well adapted, you cant expect to fit everything in for christ sakes! Loved it!
Conor, UK on July 17th, 2009
I thought that the film was alright all in all, but there was simply not enough action and excitement. They missed out some key elements, especially the funeral and the battle, since there wasn't enough action as it was. There also wasn't enough emphasis on the importance of horcruxes, or what Harry's mission was exactly. Despite the negatives, the special effects were excellent and the acting (particulary from Alan Rickman [Snape]), were good. I'm slightly disappointed with the film, but I am looking forward to 'Deathly Hallows' in November 2010.

Having read the book all the books, i have to say that this was the most dissapointing adaptation, they actualy made it boring, turned it into a bloody romcom!. They cut out some of the best parts of the film, including the battle at the end of the book! which god knows why they cut out! and they added there own parts 2 it, with the time they spent doin that we could have had the battle at hogwarts!, fair enough i know they cant do everything in the book, but why add there own scenes?, it dont make sense to me. however i must say that the one scene they did get right was the cave scene with the inferi, probably the best part of the film!

GB, Dundee on July 17th, 2009
Superb! Lots cut-out from the book - but still manages to retain the key elements of the novel. There are lots of people who see and enjoy the films without knowing the detail and minutæ of the books. To the moaners - go back and read the book if you are not happy. You have several months to wait for the next episode - which you will also no doubt complain about. There's only so much you can put in 2½ hours.

Nia on July 17th, 2009
Well... I loved the books and have read them a few time over. HP films 1 to 4 were great even with the omissions, they still followed the original story 90% of the time. HP&TOOTF - film 5 was hacked to death and left you assuming a lot. it was the worst film for me so I was worried about the same director being in charge for HP6 AND HP7 - and with good reason! I saw this film last night and though I was disappointed. The film was only entertaing due to the comedic acting of Rupert Grint and Jessie Cave and the brilliant portral of Malfoy by Tom Felton. Dan Radcliffe was funny as Potter after the effects of taken felix felicies but the whole build up to Ginny and Harry was a BIG let down. No passion, you were left guessing as to whether Ginny and Dean broke up and whether Harry and Ginny were a couple. The death was glossed over - no inner pain forcing harry to fufil his destiny. That director has already confirmed that Harry will NOT be present when Rom and Hermione first kiss. Lets just hope it not some long drawn out brush of the lips like Ginny and Harry!

Hayley, Battle on July 17th, 2009
I agree with much of what both the reviewer and the forum-users have said, but I will nevertheless add my own tuppence-worth and there are spoilers to follow. Radcliffe shone in this movie, his Felix Felicis scenes being the standout comedic moments of the film. The entire thing was shot beautifully and very cinematically, and most of the obvious plot points were included. However, my one major niggle was the missing final battle at Hogwarts. However, overall this was a brilliant film, with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments, most notably from Harry himself and also the horrifically under-used Luna Lovegood. It is also lovely to see more of Harry and Luna's sweet and genuine friendship. Personally, despite the major plot niggle, I would give this film four stars.

Cheryl T, Baltimore, MD on July 17th, 2009
After waiting so long, I would've loved the sixth feature film no matter what they did to it, but have to admit that I left the theater feeling unfulfilled. I agree with the comment about fans of the books hating this movie. We want the movies to bring the books to life - not create a Harry Potter world through the director's vision. I talked with people before the midnight opening and many were expecting a funeral and memories of Slytherin heirs. Too much left out and too much deviation. Hardcore fans may remember Half-Blood Prince as the worst movie of the franchise. Let's hope they get it right for Deathly Hallows.
Dave, Berlin on July 17th, 2009
Hang about, why are dumb asses that haven't seen the film giving it 5 stars? Not resally fussed about seeing the film as the book puts it to shame! If they have left out the end battle, they shouldn't have even bothered with the rest!
Zoe Peterborough uk on July 17th, 2009
This Movie was brilliant - it certainly did and had everything i love in a film - a bit of action a bit of romance and a little tragedy x all in all I'd say one of the best potter films.
J, Bedford on July 17th, 2009
I didn't like it. The book is not a comedy, its one of the darkest of the series and the movie ruined that. There was no battle, no funeral, no Scrigemour, even the Half Blood Prince was hardly mentioned. The scenes with Harry and Ginny were cringeworthy, the two had no chemistry. If I hadn't read the book I would have been very lost as to what was going on - and as to why Ginny was suddenly this big character. Dumbledore held a strong resembalance to Gandalf, and I found myself expecting the hobbits to turn up. Dan Radcliffe and Emma Watson have a strong chemistry on screen which leads some viewers to the conclusion that Harry would end up with Hermione. All in all I thought it was quite poor.

Seán, Ireland on July 16th, 2009
I saw the new movie today and I honestly thought it was the best one yet! Now, admittedly I was a bit disappointed they left stuff out but that's me with all the Potter films. But honestly this new film has a mix of everything...horror, comedy, action, drama, romance! It was much more grown up than earlier movies yet kids should still find it enjoyable. Yes, some characters and plotlines weren't developed much but all in all it's an entertaining movie and above par from the previous five. Cinematography was amazing! However, Luna was criminally under used!

Adam Wright, Spalding on July 16th, 2009
Its one of the better Potter movies since films 1 and 2 due to its strong link with the Potter universe and the mention of the diary from film2, professor sprout (who we haven't seen since film1) and the character styles. Slightly disappointed about the horcrux scene around the dark cave lake. When I read the book I pictured a bigger dark cave with epic creatures. More of the hogwarts battle should have been added towards the end as well. Never the less, it managed to tell a version of the story ready for the final parts for 2010/11.

Nicola, Ayr on July 16th, 2009
I've seen the movie and read all the books but i've been let down by the movies. This is an ok film - not brilliant but not bad. Its hard to pinpoint what is exactly wrong with this movie as its a broad mixture of things. Some of the acting was ropey yet the script didn't give the actors much to work with. The script wasn't structured right to give a compelling movie, therefore it felt like an amateur who stuck some scenes together to try to tell a story. There weren't enough dark moments in the script to feel like there is danger lurking around the corner. Draco's subplot was handled badly.
