I have not read the book and thought that the movie might turn out to be a good one, I was a bit disappointed by the story line but thought some of the acting was allright. I think it lacked in good directing and think that "if" they make another film think that they should hire a better director. The best part of the whole film is some of the computer animation which is quite good while taking the underachieved film into consideration, but if the second film did come out I would have to watch it because the first film only tells half the story and hopefully if I watch it it will leave me thinking that it is one of the best films I have seen in a long time.

I actually loved the film but I do believe it could have been directed better. To be honest while watching the movie my mind did drift off to Lord of the Rings which by the way is the most fab movie ever.

It was okay. The guy was cute and the story was interesting.

The worst film I have EVER seen. I had to do a review on the book in school and it is NOTHING like the book. The only similarities are the names and the fact that there's a dragon in it!!! DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT WATCH THE FILM....read the book though. The book is really good.

This is the WORST movie i have had the misfortune to see. Story is bad, plot is bad. Even some of the better known actors in this movie are bad. The only thing even keeping this movie going was the music. Though just like most other fantasy films. I am sick of these second rate BOOK/MOVIES just don't do them if you are going to make a monkey out of it.!!

I thought it was quite boring and has copied parts from other films such as Superman and Lord of the Rings.

This was truly awful. An sorry attempt to emulate a lord of the rings type epic. Predictable and with the most irritating hero ever. This kid does nothing he is told to do, listens to nobody and ends up in true hollywood style causing more trouble that he is worth ! Cute baby dragon though.

The film was fine. It was entertaining enough to keep you in suspended reality for its entire duration. I liked the character development of eragon. but it is not a film you remember...as soon as you step out of the movie house its as if you were never there at all, it doesn’t make an entire conversation - more like a couple of sentences

I think Eragon is a great film. I think its a wonderful movie.

Bad. Awful, Dire, Painful, the worst film I have ever paid money to see. I did wonder if it was because I don't usually like swords and sorcery type things but I am pleased to see I am not alone in hating this pile of old pony. My daughter has read and loved the book and was pressuring me to see the film as soon as possible, so it was with considerable anticipation we sat down to it. I was laughing AT it within very few minutes. It was too much like too many other things.. particularly the movie they made out of "A Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula le Guin. I quite forgot that it wasn't the same film at times. It was so funny... and not for the right reasons. The effects were OK, but the script was painful. I'm afraid I was practically howling with derisive laughter long before the end. Verdict: Save your money.. dont even bother with it as a video rental.

eragon is brilliant - almost as good as Harry Potter.

This movie was and is so bad that I am considering a Class Action lawsuit to get my $10 back. Acting was awful, script was worse than awful, special effects were awful, pacing was awful, directing (if it happened at all) was awful. Things done well: - Marketing campaign to get people into the theater - the popcorn, although the Eragon team likely had little to do with that. Overall rating: 0 out of 10

Ed Speleers is delicious to look at...but he can't act. Should be doing 70's porn instead. I also think Weisz is miscast as the voice of Saphira. Do you remember the "rip it out his chest" line...weak weak weak.... I won't even start on how badly Djimon Hounsou sounds in this film. Peter Jackson where art thou?

The film is really good. I like the film because it has lots of action in it.

The book is aimed at the 'young adult' market. It's violence & physical horror level( e.g.Urgals have massacred a village, and piled the corpses as a display, with a baby on top) would probably rate a 15 age minimum. The film was so blatantly downscaled to aim at under 12's, that it's a travesty. I feel as if a new, young author has been taken advantage of. Paolini's writing deserves much more than this!

A long awaited film, but sadly disappointing. Too short, absence of storyline and characters, the making of a sequel would be confusing at best.

The film was of reasonable quality - but I do agree that the acting was not good. The book was quite enjoyable but the film did not live up to its hyped expectations.

This movie managed to take the book, which was, to be honest, awful, and make it worse. Eliminating every part of the book that made it readable in favour of 'Ooh, shiny, stuff to kill!'. And what was up with Arya and the feathers? And the *skirt*?

Watched Eragon at Vue Cinema in Hartlepool on Xmas eve 2006, absolutely fantastic film. It has inspired me enough to buy the book & the game for my xbox, looking forward to the next one. :)

I haven't read the book, but enjoyed the film. I thought that Jeremy Irons played an excellent part, though the battle scene could perhaps have been better thought out. I will read the book now, and maybe then I might not feel so good about the film, but if you don't already know the book and take the film on face value then it is very entertaining.

The book is a classic, but the movie is pretty bad. The main interest for the movie is to get from point A to point B. While the book was great because of the way I came from point A to point B. They've taken all the good stuff and removed it and reinvented some new stuff that fit the storyline more or less. Rather read the book then watch movie. It gave me flashback to Xena - The Amazon warrior and Hercules - The Invincible! And that's in a bad way! Ridiculous costumes, bad humor...

I thought they would have a hard time doing it right and in the end they didn't do it well at all. The movie was basically crap. I mean the books are similar to LOTR and those movies are great! Couldn't they have gone along those lines...!!?? I mean the elves didn't even have pointy ears!

I definitely agree with your review. As a film it wasn't that good, and as a book adaption it wasn't that good either. I think there should have been more Murtagh and less just a copy of Lord of the Rings (ie. Durza shouting at the troops, somewhat reminiscent of Saruman before the battle of Helmsdeep). However, I did think Saphira was quite well created, and I liked her character. Over all, I thought this film was just about worth seeing.

I LOVED IT! Aw, I'm not usually a fan of this kind of movie/what I expected it to be all about (war - violence, etc) but, this movie had enough non- violence. It was incredible tension, wondering what would happen, and just a really sweet film. I also loved how the dragon "dies" (I cried!) and then comes BACK. I mean that was just amazingly scripted and plotted out. Overall I really enjoyed this film. Thank you Stefan Fangmeier and Peter Buchman!! You have inspired me, to read the book! And good casting.

This movie was a D rating at best. If you liked the book spare yourself the anger and skip the movie. Poor acting, low budget piece of crap.
Liam, Manchester on December 20th, 2006
It is like Star Wars but dragoney. A bit of a jam of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars.
