Downey Jr eyes 'Sherlock Holmes' role

Robert Downey Jr. wants to play Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchie's new film based around the famous Baker Street detective, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The 43-year-old is also in demand for several other projects following his recent success with Iron Man.

Along with Warner Bros's Holmes remake, Downey Jr. has registered an interest in Fox's Travis McGee film The Deep Blue Good-by, Universal comedy Dog Years and Brett Ratner's biopic of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner.

Downey Jr. will next be seen in Ben Stiller war comedy Tropic Thunder, scheduled for a UK release on September 19.
