The actress, whose new film The Edge Of Love is released on Friday, revealed that she took a role in GI Joe because of the impending actors strike.
"There's a strike that might be happening so it was all very impulsive of me," she commented.
Miller also confessed that appearing in high-profile Hollywood productions will allow her to take on smaller, character-driven movies.
"I'm not an idiot," she said "I do get that there is a strategy to some degree in that the industry we're in now [requires] you to be in a film that is incredibly successful commercially in order to be in good films that don't have big budgets."
She added: "GI Joe is a $200 million film and I'm scared by that."
