Justin Zackham has been hired to write Once Chance, a film about the life of Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts.
The movie will show how Potts, a former mobile phone salesman, made one final attempt to become a professional opera singer by entering the ITV talent contest.
Simon Cowell, Michael Menchel and Steve Whitney will act as producers on the film, which is set up at Paramount.
Cowell earlier said of Potts's first audition: "I can remember looking at the other judges, with that 'here we go again' feeling. We had 2,000 people in the audience, and I'll never forget how much the room changed when he began singing."
