Jack Black has confessed that he tries to "hide" his movie roles if he thinks he has been given a bad script.

The comedy actor revealed that he successfully avoids bad publicity by failing to properly promote films which are likely to receive poor reviews.

"You don't just do something to do it. When you do a good movie you feel good at promoting it. When it's a bad movie you want to release it quietly," he explained. "You try to keep it a secret like an STD."

Despite its disappointing performance at the box office, Black insisted that he remains proud of his role in Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, which centred around a fictional adventure embarked on by his satirical rock band.

He said: "I really liked the 'Tenacious D' movie. I was proud of that one."
