The actress said the Ballerina Ballroom Cinema Of Dreams aims to "reinject some romance into the film festival circuit" and to escape "the shackles" of release schedules.
The event will take place in a ballroom in Nairn in the Scottish Highlands between August 15 and 23.
Swinton won this year's best supporting actress Oscar for her role in thriller Michael Clayton.
