The Irish actor, who stars in upcoming musical Mamma Mia!, is quoted by The Mirror as saying: "For me there is only one Bond and that is Sean, although Daniel [Craig] is bloody magnificent.
"I am very excited about the next one to see where it goes and how to take it. I haven't spoken to Dan for a while but I am going to meet him for a pint soon."
Brosnan added that the popularity of the Bond series made it difficult for actors to have a successful career after leaving the role.
"When you go into Bond it is such an iconic role and you know that as soon as you say 'yes' you are in, you are a Bond," he said. "You are labelled, you are stamped, you are a number - I am not a number, I am a free man.
"You then have to figure out how to move on in your career after it's finished. I saw Sean Connery go through it."
