Channel 4 will make three films based on David Peace's novels about the Yorkshire Ripper, Variety reports.
Peace's 'Red Riding Quartet' series, which focuses on the police hunt and eventual conviction of Peter Sutcliffe for a series of murders in the '70s and '80s, have been adapted into three screenplays by Tony Grisoni (Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas).
Three directors have signed on to work on the $10 million-budgeted trilogy: Julian Jarrold will direct Nineteen Seventy Four, James Marsh will direct Nineteen Eighty and Anand Tucker will direct Nineteen Eighty Three.
Parts of Peace's book Nineteen Seventy Seven will also be worked into the three films.
The Damned United, a BBC film based on Peace's novel about football manager Brian Clough, is currently in production.
