The film, which revolves around a group of soldiers stranded behind enemy lines in World War II, will commence shooting in Europe this October on an accelerated production schedule. Tarantino is hoping to premiere the movie at next year's Cannes Film Festival.
The Weinstein Company is looking to co-finance the project with a major Hollywood studio - Universal, Paramount, Warner Bros and Sony are reportedly looking at the script - in exchange for foreign rights.
Lawrence Bender, a producer on all of Tarantino's films, will oversee the project.
Pitt has previously appeared in a small role in the Tarantino-scripted True Romance. He can next be seen in the Coen brothers comedy Burn After Reading, released this October.
