Universal will have to make changes to The Mummy: The Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor in order to get the film released in China.

According to Variety, China's State Administration for Radio, Film and Television has put the movie's release on hold pending changes to the final cut.

A spokesman for Universal said: "Universal does not anticipate any obstacles to clearing the film for China and looks forward to releasing The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor in the country where it was set and shot."

During the film, Li's emperor revives an army of terracotta warriors. The use of ghosts is usually considered taboo in China and censors have reportedly requested that the political and historical nature of the plot be swapped for something more fantastical.

The film, which stars Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh and Jet Li, is scheduled to arrive in UK cinemas next month.
