The sequel to 2004's music comedy, provisionally titled School Of Rock 2: America Rocks, will follow Black's character Dewey as he takes a class of school kids on a summer trip across the USA.
It is not confirmed whether any of the children from the original movie will be returning.
Scott Rudin will produce, while Mike White is producing the script. White has previously teamed up with Black on the comedy projects Nacho Libre and Orange County.
