Universal has purchased Richard Regen's script Tehran for Brian Grazer to produce, says Variety.
The political drama will centre on an American professor who is hired by the government to observe tensions in pre-coup Tehran during the late '70s. There he discovers the political dangers present in Iran and falls for a woman whose brother is a member of the secret police.
Brian Grazer (The Da Vinci Code) will produce the film through his Imagine Entertainment company.
Regen's script made it onto Hollywood's "blacklist" last year, a compilation of the favourite scripts of various Hollywood agents, assistants and studio executives.
