Gillian Anderson will sell off memorabilia she accumulated during her time on The X Files to raise money for charity.

Auctions for more than 500 rare items will go on sale on eBay's Giving Works charity section from July 17 ahead of the release of The X Files: I Want To Believe.

However, Anderson has admitted that there are several mementos she would like to hang on to.

"There's an FBI file that I'm a bit hesitant to auction because it may be one of only two in existence - but I'm doing it anyway," she said.

"And almost all the behind-the-scenes photographs bring back extremely vivid memories. They're actually quite intimate... compared to all the posed photos out there."
