The Meryl Streep romantic comedy knocked Will Smith's superhero vehicle Hancock into second place.
Elsewhere, Brendan Fraser's adventure romp Journey To The Centre Of The Earth debuted at number five, while Jet Li's The Forbidden Kingdom entered at six.
