John Woo signs to direct 'Caliber'

John Woo has agreed to direct an adaptation of Radical Comics's Caliber, reports Variety.

The story, a reinvention of the King Arthur legend, portrays the Knights of the Round Table as 19th century gunslingers in the Pacific Northwest.

The film will be produced by Johnny Depp's Infinitum Nihil company, Radical Comics and Woo's US production firm Lion Rock.

Caliber is unlikely to be Woo's next project, as he earlier agreed to helm 1949, a film about the communist takeover of China.

The next Woo film to reach cinemas will be two-part war epic Red Cliff.
