Tobey Maguire has landed the lead role in legal drama The Crusaders.

Maguire will play Jack Greenberg in the story of the landmark 1954 Brown v Board of Education case, reports Variety.

Greenberg worked on the case, which ruled segregation in American schools illegal, with future Supreme Court Justice Thurogood Marshall.

Danny Strong will pen the script, which is based on Greenberg's book Crusaders In The Courts, while Gary Ross has signed on to helm the project.

Ross and Maguire worked together previously on Seabiscuit and Pleasantville.
