Hounsou cast as 'Thulsa Doom'

Rex Features

Djimon Hounsou will play the lead role in a film about immortal sorcerer Thulsa Doom, Variety reports.

The character, who has appeared in Conan The Barbarian comic books and was portrayed by James Earl Jones in the 1982 Conan film, will get his own comic series next year from Dynamite Entertainment.

Doom was created by pulp author Robert E. Howard in the '30s for the story Delcardes' Cat. The movie adaptation, which Hounsou will produce, is to focus on the character's origins.

Hounsou has previously appeared in Gladiator, Constantine and Blood Diamond.
