Speaking at Comic-Con International in San Diego, the best-selling author said he had read a script based on the thriller and "fell over" because it was "so perfect".
He claimed that an unnamed actor has signed to take the lead role in the movie, about a short order cook who confronts a killer after communicating with the ghost of a girl he raped and murdered.
Odd Thomas was published in 2003 and Koontz has since written three other novels in what he expects to be a seven-book series.
He added: "I know how it ends. But I don't know how he gets there yet."
