Universal Studios is in negotiations to partner with The Weinstein Company on Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards.

According to Variety, Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein met with five studios last week to try to thrash out a deal to co-finance the World War II drama.

The director recently met with Brad Pitt to discuss taking on the role of Aldo Raine. Leonardo DiCaprio has also been linked to the project.

Inglorious Bastards will film in Europe later in the year, with Tarantino aiming to premiere the movie at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
