Nicolas Cage and filmmaker John Carpenter are in final talks to unite for prison drama Scared Straight.

The film's plot focuses on a youth who is sent on a jail's Scared Straight crime-prevention scheme to deter him from breaking the law again.

After a riot breaks out, a prisoner serving a life sentence (Cage) attempts to save the young man from out-of-control inmates.

The movie will mark Carpenter's first feature since 2001's Ghosts Of Mars.

Scared Straight, written by Joe Gazzam and Ron Brinkerhoff, was recently dropped by studio New Line. Nu Image/Millennium Films has now stepped in to finance the project.
