Gillian Anderson has admitted that returning to her role as Dana Scully in the new X-Files movie was more difficult than she anticipated.

As filming for I Want To Believe began in December last year, Anderson realised that she had lost touch with her character following the conclusion of the X-Files TV series in 2002.

"I thought I'd fall back into it naturally, but at first it felt odd. I was having a hard time finding Scully's voice," Gillian told WENN. "It wasn't until day three or four, when I had scenes with David [Duchovny] and we were working together again, that I felt comfortable. That's when I felt I'd come home."

Anderson recently revealed that she "tried pretty hard" to put Scully behind her after completing work on the sci-fi programme.

The X-Files: I Want To Believe was released on Friday in the UK.
